Allergies.
(Provided by Sylvia Muiznieks, Sr CBI)
People can develop allergies to almost anything. An allergic reaction to a substance is what happens when the body's normal defense mechanism to foreign invaders becomes highly sensitive and extreme. The body over reacts on a physiological level to something that has entered from the external environment. Allergies can be extremely uncomfortable and interfere with normal daily activities. The following case study involves multiple allergies.

A 60 year old female presented with numerous symptoms, including allergies to several different types of foods (gluten, chocolate, dairy, tomatoes, MSG, spices) as well as to environmental allergens such as shampoo and pollens. Over the course of 4 fairly intense BodyTalk treatments in a 5 week period, this client reported major improvements: she was able to eat out in an ethnic restaurant without any problems; she was able to shampoo her hair; and the trimming of her neighbour's flowering bushes did not elicit an allergic response. It is difficult to isolate any specific links that would have led to the allergy improvements in this case, because the treatment sessions addressed so many different issues at once.

Basic Brain Balancing - Depression, Low Energy and Sleep Disorder.
(Provided by Sylvia Muiznieks, Sr CBI)
The brain (in western medical philosophy) is responsible for managing all aspects of our state of health (or disease). If there is an imbalance in any part of the brain, there will be a corresponding "problem" somewhere in the physical or emotional body - and the "cause" can often be difficult to pinpoint from a western point of view. Once the brain is balanced internally and is communicating efficiently with other parts of the body, many nebulous health-related issues will resolve themselves.

The following is a case study involving a combination of severe depression, low energy and sleep disorder.

A 58 year old female complained of suffering from chronic depression, a lack of energy and poor sleep. She had been seeing a psychiatrist on a regular basis and felt that she was not improving. On her first visit, two specific areas in her frontal lobe on the left side were identified as requiring linking to a third area in the left temporal lobe. The energetic "buzzing" underneath my fingers was palpable. Once the link had been tapped out, another area of the left temporal lobe was to be linked to the two frontal areas. This scenario repeated itself at

least another half dozen times. The "buzzing" stopped abruptly and entirely and the client reported that she felt like she was experiencing complete peace for the first time in her life. A few days later she called to inform me that her depression had completely lifted to the point of experiencing a feeling of joy (the psychiatrist had a difficult time believing that!), that she felt like doing more of the things she enjoyed now that she felt more energetic and that the quality of her sleep had improved greatly.

Claustrophobia - Dental Work.
(Provided by Sylvia Muiznieks,      Sr CBI)
When there is an imbalance in the emotional reaction to an object or situation, a phobia can develop. Phobias can have anywhere from a mild impact on the activities in the life of a person to a major debilitating effect - to the point where a person cannot function. The following is a case study involving claustrophobia and dental work.

A 49 year old male client had a history of requiring major dental work and hated every moment of being in a dentist's chair. The primary problem was the claustrophobic panic he experienced every time he was fitted with a rubber dam over his mouth. During one of his BodyTalk sessions, claustrophobia was identified as a priority. The balancing treatment was applied, with the added touch of having a hand towel draped over his face (to mimic a claustrophobic situation and intensify the emotional reaction).

About two weeks later this client embarked on a series of root canals and re-crowning of 8 teeth. He happily reported that at no time did he experience any panic when the rubber dam was placed over his mouth. In fact, he was able to complete the entire series of 4 dental treatments in a relaxed frame of mind.

Organs - Uterus.
(Provided by Sylvia Muiznieks Sr. CBI)
All organs follow a cyclical rhythm of function. They have certain times when they peak in their productivity and certain times when they ebb. This cycle can be traced on a daily basis and, in the instance of the uterus, on a monthly basis. Every woman's menstrual cycle, when balanced and working in synchronicity with the other organs and glands in the body, should be exactly 28 1/4 days long (following the lunar cycle). Any deviation from this leads to imbalances in the bodymind complex, presenting themselves either dramatically as in premenstrual syndrome complications (bloating, pain, emotional turmoil, etc.) or in more subtle ways. The following is a case study involving the uterus.

A 45 year old female had been receiving BodyTalk treatments for several weeks. Then her uterus kept coming up as a priority with links to other organs and endocrine glands. Upon questioning, she indicated that she has always had regular menstrual cycles lasting 32 days. There were no notable symptoms around her cycles. During one session, the uterus was linked to the cardiovascular circulation within the endometrial layer. That evening, the client reported that she experienced a sensation in the region where her uterus lies which was not painful, but felt like "the uterus was rearranging itself". The sensation lasted 24 hours. The client reported that the very next menstrual cycle had shortened to 28 1/4 days! (This client will continue to keep a journal of changes to her body as she approaches menopause. She is hoping that this treatment will have prevented any annoying symptoms around her experience of the change of life!)

Ovarian Cyst.
(Provided by Sylvia Muiznieks, Sr CBI)
A 25-year-old woman was diagnosed with a cyst on her right ovary. It was causing her pain and discomfort. She was scheduled for surgery to remove the cyst, but wanting to avoid the surgery, she chose to look for alternative methods of shrinking the cyst. She tried herbs, supplements and acupuncture treatments over a couple of months, but they did not seem to help and in fact her cyst grew. She heard about BodyTalk from a friend and made an appointment. By the time I saw her, the tumor had grown to the size of an egg. At the end of the first session, she commented that she thought she felt "something move" in the lower right quadrant of her abdomen. Approximately one week later, she phoned to inform me that she had had another ultra sound test performed in preparation for the surgery. She was excited. Before the procedure, she had told the technician that she thought it had shrunk because the pain was gone. After performing the test, the technician exclaimed: "What if I told you that it was totally gone?" Apparently, her body had reabsorbed the cyst within a week after the BodyTalk treatment!

Reciprocals - Sprained Ankle
(Provided by Sylvia Muiznieks, Sr CBI)
The body's posture and movement mechanics are a direct result of its musculoskeletal structure and how the brain synchronizes the various parts. The basic premise is that the brain coordinates what is known as reciprocals: parts of the upper body are synchronized with their opposite counterparts in the lower body. For example, the right shoulder moves in harmony with the left hip, the left elbow works with the right knee, and so on. When the reciprocals are out of synch with each other, the body experiences a disruption in posture and gait. The result can be painful and chronic. Balancing the reciprocals brings the musculoskeletal system back into harmony, allowing for painless and graceful movement.

Reciprocals can also be used for treating emergency situations such as acute sprains. The following case study involves a severely sprained ankle.

A 20 year old male experienced a severe sprain to his left ankle while performing the long jump in track and field. He presented with extensive edema and pain about 4 hours later. The reciprocal treatment was performed (to the right wrist). The next day, the edema had resolved itself leaving only a small amount of inflammation over the specific tissue that had been damaged by the accident. The body's innate wisdom indicated massage therapy treatments for the ligaments in the area. The area of the sprain was eventually totally free of all pain and there were no signs of any residual weakness.

Scars - Abdominal Symptoms.
(Provided by Sylvia Muiznieks Sr CBI)
Since scars have a different composition than normal tissue, they don't conduct energy in the same way and can therefore affect the flow of energy in and around the body. The size of the scar is of less importance than its location. If a scar is located on a meridian or on an acupuncture point, the disruption in energy flow can have dramatic effects in the proper functioning of body parts supplied by those circuits. The following is a case study involving a scar in the abdominal area

Scars came up as a priority during the first treatment session of a 47 year old female with an extensive history of abdominal pain and various surgeries in the abdominal region. This woman also reported having had problematic abdominal symptoms since puberty. The innate wisdom identified the scar from an appendectomy that had been performed when the client was 7 years old. Major complications had followed the surgery including an infection and resultant emotional trauma.

The BodyTalk balancing treatment for scars was followed. At the next treatment session a week later, the client reported having experienced severe itching over the site for 3 days following the original treatment. Surprisingly, the same scar was identified again as a priority for balancing during the second treatment session. Before commencing the treatment, a closer examination of the scar was performed. A small wiry black suture was found to be protruding from the lower end of the scar! There was a small area of inflammation encircling the base of this suture indicating that the body was eliminating it. The BodyTalk balancing treatment for scars was followed again. A week later, the client reported that the suture had completely fallen out and that her abdominal symptoms had begun to disappear.

A possible explanation is that the 40 year old stitch had been situated over a crucial acupuncture point. The resulting disruption in energy flow to the abdominal area interfered with the functioning of the organs in that area. Once the body had ejected the suture, the energy could flow into the abdomen as nature intended.
